Our business is multifaceted. We do have a store front resale shop that carries clothing, household items, books, toys, jewelry, home decor, and accessories. We sell these items at very reasonable rates to help fund our ministry. We help furnish all of the homeless shelters in Porter County, and assist individuals transitioning out of homelessness with home furnishings, housewares, and clothing to assist them on their journey. We fulfill referrals from social service agencies helping to enrich the quality of life for those in need.
"The Portage Resale Shop is a volunteer-based nonprofit thrift store that funds a ministry, connecting NWI with basic resources.
The store front carries high quality clothing, household items, decor, books, toys, small furniture, and accessories donated by the local community. The store is clean and inviting, and daily specials ensure a great bargain.
With funds from the shop we help cloth and furnish hundreds of NWI adults and students each year that are struggling to make ends meet. We fulfill referrals from local agencies helping to enrich the quality of life for those in need."
Our vision is to help churches and organizations unite in an effort to sow into the mission field that is Northwest Indiana. We are the only ministry open 6 days a week in our city. Through cooperation and unity we can help others less fortunate in our community. By sharing our time, gifts, talents, and resources we can show God's love to our community. Mission work does not just occur overseas or in a far off land, there are hurting and lost right here in our backyard. We can help churches and organizations by being a central clearing house of resources. When churches unite, efforts and results multiply. With community support, we can do our part in fulfilling Christ’s mandate to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and take in the stranger.
January 2004
The Portage Resale Shop is a compassion ministry that exists to serve Christ in His mandate to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and take in the stranger. Hearing the command of our Lord Jesus Christ to love one another as He loved us; the Portage Resale Shop has been established for ministry of compassion in the community.

We turn your donations into hope!
Our organization is volunteer based. We take donations, sort them, clean, merchandise, and price them. The items we sell help cover overhead. We assist hundreds of families a year with clothing, household items, furniture, educational items, and much more. With referral, we help families transitioning from homelessness set up new living situations. We assist schools with proper clothing and coats for students. Throughout the year, we give away over 2000 coats. We were able to provide 100 pair of new shoes and 300 new coats to students in the Portage Township Schools in 2010. We collect new socks and underwear to be given away at offsite back to school events.
Our merchandise for sale is extremely reasonably priced with sales everyday. We ensure that necessities of life are at as low of cost as possible to help those who may not qualify for referral.
